Hello Everyone,
Well I felt bad that I couldn't make Javascript popup windows work in MSIE
4.5 on the mac, so I decided to make something that would :)
http://portals.home.mindspring.com/popup/popup.html
This is a plug 'n play (I guess :) for Flash popup windows. They seem to be
working fine for me (thanks to Robert, Helen, and Karen) in NN 4.7 and MSIE
4.5 Mac OS 7.6. Please let me know if it doesn't work for someone.
Advantages:
Doesn't use Javascript
Works in any browser with a Flash 4 plug-in (I think)
Frames will automatically resize to the size of your movie (you don't need
to type in height and width).
Disadvantages:
The popups won't go outside of your movie size. You need to set the movie
big enough to accomodate them (although they will drag out, but then the
edges disappear :)
You can only have one at a time (at the moment... if this is any use to
people, I'll fix that :)
You can't utilize browser functions.
I'd love testing, both of the swf and the fla (are the instructions clear?
etc.). If anyone finds it any use, I'll add more and nicer frames and other
functionality like ones for slide shows and ones that popup more than one
window and autofocus and other stuff like that... If anyone has any
suggestions for other things, please send them my way. Or any other little
libraries like this that might be interesting.
Oh, if you want to see exactly how a movie loads into a movie clip, you can
tell from the fla. The movie is loaded into a clip called "scene" which is
set with its center in the upper left corner, then scene is put in another
movie clip and centered within the frame. (If you don't set it like that,
the frame won't properly surround the movie clip.)
Thanks!
Laura
