Subject: | FLASH: Flash Detection Script...(flashability.org?) |

Interesting thing I just found out and I thought I would see if anyone else
has had a similar experience...
I just installed Flash on a clean install of Windows with IE 5.01. (*NB* I
had not previously autoinstalled the Flash Player plugin from MM's site
before installing Flash 4). I can view Flash content on sites, etc. but I
thought it was kind of interesting that I couldn't get a JS detection script
to work with my browser. It kept telling me that I didn't have the Flash
player, but I could still view all the content just fine. So what I'm
wondering is... if the ActiveX control is registered to Windows (say for
maybe development purposes or whatever) but not specifically to IE, is there
still a JS-only way to check for it...? I didn't think so, but maybe I'm
wrong. And for future reference (if you're at liberty to say, JD), I would
like to know how exactly the controls are registered with the OS and/or the
browser because that's kinda crazy (then again, maybe that's just me and my
Windows box :)
If that was as clear as Microsoft error messages, please ask me for
clarification and I'll be more than happy to oblige ;-)
TIA,
Eric Dunham
