You can make autorun work by having it "pop open" on the CD. However, most Mac
users have autorun disabled due to the autostart worm a few years back (it
exploited the autorun feature to start up a fairly nasty little virus that
erased files with the .xls and .doc name extensions across networks; oddly
enough, this hurt their PC counterparts as much or more than the mac users
themselves; it managed to ship on some installer CDs, most notably CorelDraw).
In fact, if they don't have this turned off they really should have their head
examined.
Best thing to do for your mac users is have the file in an obvious place with an
obvious name. They're used to this and, if they remember the worm, will be
freaked out if your app fires up automatically (i.e. they'll quit your app,
change their control panel setting, and then fire up your app again thus slowing
what you wanted to speed up, unless you're distributing a new and clever worm
;-) ). I hope this gives you enough ammo to explain to your client. Feel free to
email me if you need a different explanation.
