FLASH: Quick help please!

I recall a technique used to load variables from an external file using 

LoadVariable but for some reason, I can't seem to get it to work.


Can anyone refresh my memory on how to get this variable to load?


I've got a text file named dates.txt

it's contents say dates="december 9 and 10"

In Flash, I have an editable text field named dates and left blank.


Do I also need to define that variable in an action script?


Nothing is loading.  I tried to find this example on Flashzone but that site

seems to be down.
