Jeff,
The best way to get FH drawings in flash is exporting as
.swf from Freehand (mak sure you have the FH 8.01b version
in which the .sfw export module was improved).
Flash doesn't support all Freehand attributes (e.g. dashed
lines, some text attributes).
As far as I understand, the creation of symbols to replace
and refer FreeHand elements by Flash is meant as a feature
to keep file sizes down. I just place them in a folder in
the document library in Flash to get them out of the way,
and don't touch them.
