FLASH: length of editable text in PIXEL ?

hi everybody,


i'm quite new to the list (and i'm quite new to flash 4) but i learned a lot

from reading - THANK YOU !!! - this is my fist question:


Is there a way to get the lenght of editable text in pixel ?


(i want to place an invisible button over a text the user inserted that fits the  size of the entry - not of the text field.)


i figured out that i can work around the problem by 


1)using a monospaced font and 

2)embedding the whole font,         then i can calculate 


Length(my_text_var)*my_fonts_char_width.


if one knows an alternative that doesn't need 1) or 2) please let me know
