It does work a bit wierd: I get _two_ layers after
importing a circle with a gradient, the top layer
appears to be the gradiet info (must activate the top
layer to edit the gradient) w/as turning off the
visibility of the lower layer hides the graphic.
However, after converting to symbol, _deleting_ the
image and second layer, and bringing the symbol back
onto stage I can hide it normally.
I haven't really tested the size differences between
imported AI graphics and Fla, but others have reported
that a reason for the strangeness of flash's vector
editing tools (no bezier handles, for instance) is a
trade off for smaller size.
