I used that method also and had the same exact problem. Here is how I worked
around it:
First I put the sound mc in the first frame of the movie ( Im not sure if
this is required, but the mc must be BEFORE any of the frames which the
buttons point to). Then I added another frame to the beginning (1st fr) of
the sound mc with everything but the sound. Frame two is still sound on and
frame three is still sound off.
Now put a tell target on the same frame or any frame thereafter on the main
timeline. The tell target points to the sound movie clip and tels it to
either play, goto frame 2, or whatever depending on how you have modified
the mc.
Now when it seems to think its passing the movie clip there is no sound in
the first frame so it wont start up again unless you press the button. Its
not perfect and there is probably a better way to do this, but it works.
