This is a very frequent topic online. The Microsoft browsers won't tell
JavaScript what plugins they have. Although the IE/Win browser can tell
VBScript some-but-not-all ActiveX Controls, IE/Mac will not say "yes, I
have a plugin".
That's why most detection routines give known-to-be-safe content to IE/Mac
visitors, and why most sites offer a manual override to any JavaScript
detection.
(Tip: If you already lost time by puzzling over this and writing a message,
then it can pay off big to actually read the messages on this list...
others will be facing similar types of problems before you do, so reading
can cut your experimentation time.)
