Did you not keep a copy of the FLA in Flash 4 format. If not then bad luck old chap. But take the lesson from it. I have a whole site for a client on going and allot done in 4 I will be converting to 5 but I decided to wait and watch the list to see if this sort of thing happened. However I would have kept a copy of all my work in 4 format when I did it.
Can I ask why you are exporting as Flash 4 and not Flash 5 as that way you lose much of the functionality that 5 offers do you not. Is it that Flash 5 players are not commonly installed. I am lucky as the site I am doing has very basic code where it has it because we have not started the games section yet. I will have to do that in Flash five but I am learning it on my own site not of a paying client.
I do hope you have not lost your work in anyway I know how hard that is and how shit it makes you feel.
Have a look at www.earlthesquirrel.com and let me know what you think. The client loves it and it is my first all flash site, be warned it for small children.
My sympathy

I found a possible bug in Flash 5 while working on a project for a
customer. It appears that Flash 5 Exports the wrong command for sizing
objects when you set it to publish in Flash 4 format. After inspecting
two otherwise similar files with ASV, this is what the two files contain:
Flash 4 generated with Flash 5:
Set Property ("hvitt2", Width) = 550 - barWidth
Flash 4:
Set Property ("hvitt1", X Scale) = 550 - barWidth
This is a major pain, as I've quit using Flash 4 to learn Flash 5
better, and as we all know, there is no way to get a file back to F4....
