After going through the technote and not getting some of the possible fixes 

to work....I wound up reverting to OS 8.6 to get rid of the problem.   I 

clean installed OS 9 several times after not being successful.  One of the 

times, it did go away.  When I was testing the extensions one by one....I 

was able to drag library items to the stage until I installed Mouseware 

software, for logitech mice!!!  The problem came back.


Ok, was this the problem?  Hmmm, I still don't know.  I uninstalled that 

software and extension, and the problem remained.  One last time I tried to 

do a full clean install.  This time, even with no 3rd party extensions added 

at the beginning, the problem persisted.....what the heck?


Finally after all the frustration, I have now "upgraded" to mac OS 8.6 from 

the 9....my system runs better than it did before, and I'm happy, because my 

flash works!!!!!!  I'm not missing OS 9.

Yes, some MacOS9 installations have similar symptoms, across a range of

apps. Technote #14442 has an article on it, but I'd defer to a Mac-specific

resource for news on the underlying causes, or which OS sub-versions are

affected.
