I agree...I'm actually dealing with that issue now. In my site(yet to be
launched), most of my content pages are brought in with loadMovie commands
and I'm having trouble getting all the XML stuff to work correctly. It
connects but doesn't realize it. In other words, the java server hears it
but my onConnect in Flash 5 isn't registering....I'm sure that it's just a
targeting issue. I haven't had too much time to spend on it.

Are you the one who did the Flash-JavaScript-Java and back thing in Flash 4?
If so, can I message you offlist about a couple issues I have run into with
the one I'm working on now....I'm just having problems when it comes to
moving things around and having them update on other screens. Not sure of
what the best method is to send the data....I have it currently running off
of a:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
blah blah blah
}

I don't know if that's the fastest or what.

the only hard part is making sure to avoid global variables,
(so you don't stomp on something that might already be there)
yet giving the person using the clip a way to keep track of
the movie instance and where it is in the movie heirarchy
(in case they want to do a load movie and not just drag-n-drop
into their FLA)

i still haven't figured out a good model for that...

Yeah...it'll be pretty simple to set it up. I'm still working on the chat
itself. Still alot of functionality I want to put in. The server can be used
for games and stuff like that too and I want to explore some of that. Smart
Clips are definitely in it's future though.

that's definitely possible.
just have to make clip parameters
for machine name and port number.

very very easy.

Had a look last night. Congrat's! Do you really think it would be possible
to deliver something like this as a smart clip/packaged code? That would be
amazing.
BTW, there were four of us on at the time...Mac G3 256mb Netscape 4.7

I just tried it using two browser windows, had a nice conversation with
myself.
It worked perfectly. Win98, NN 4,7 German. The scroll control is nicely
done...
