how large is the sound clip? If its large(like 20MB's), it might be
straining your computer too much to preview inside Flash.
Publishing the movie into the browser should give you consistent results.
If it still works intermittently, then try saving the movie and closing
everything but the browser. That way your computer will have all resources
dedicated to playing the movie.

Preview mode, and with the Flash player straight from the Desktop/folder.
I have problems both ways, and intermittently.
I think the MC with the sound file is working now, though.
