Thanks for the heads-up, I was going to invest time here too....
( ... aww, shucks, I can't resist though... I'm still not sure of what the
actual question is, but if it's close to "If a client fixates on a filesize
limits, yet mandates content which exceeds those limits, how can I
gracefully merge the client into shared reality?" (Well, I guess it
wouldn't be *exactly* that, but.... ;-) If so, then one tack is to focus
on the true underlying need: fast startup, no wait, immediate
responsiveness. This can be difficult with big blocks'o pixel-based media
(you can't partially display a Photoshop file!), but the general techniques
in the "fast start" technote still apply.)
