Assuming you're using Flash 4 (since Flash 5 can import MP3s directly)

you need to decode the MP3 to a wave file in an MP3 decoder (Winamp

will work if you change the output settings) and then import it.


The WAV format has better quality than MP3s, and the difference is

sometimes very noticeable, especially for speech (and especially with Flash

4's built in MP3 compression.  Either way you have the choice of which

format you want in your final SWF (use publish settings to set the format

for the whole SWF or go to properties the properties of each individual

sound in the library to tweak them individually).


MP3 compression will make the sounds in your SWF about 1/10th the size

of WAVs, so there's always a trade-off...  I'm sure the MP3s are also

harder on the user's processor, which is something to consider since Flash

can get pretty processor intensive.
