[uk-netmarketing] Recommendations for online marketing books

I don't think that there is 'one' book for online marketing as there are so many areas: adwords, email marketing, seo, testing, usability, form optimisation etc that you could read a book on each one.

There are some good online resources: Google's Adwords and Analytics and Optimizer training videos are not a bad place to start, and seomoz for seo. A good resource I found for a variety of things is www.lynda.com which has tutorials on just about anything you can imagine and is cheap,

Some books I have found useful over the last few years:

SEO: Get to # 1 on Google in Easy Steps by Ben Norman: very good resource on seo, pictorial book with only 200 pages and easy to read
Winning Results with Google Adwords by Andrew Goodman: A comprehensive intro to adwords and ppc
Get to the top on Google by David Viney: SEO and PPC
Creating Web Pages Simplified by Mike Wooldridge: another pictoral book like the Ben Norman book above (ideal for a non-techie to get to grips with html)
Rocket Surgery Made Easy by Steve Krug: the follow up to Don't Make Me Think on web usability
Always be testing by Brian Eisenberg: Guide to website testing and Website Optimiser

Teaching Your Cat to Bark by Brian Eisenberg: Usability and Personas

More advanced but with a few chapters at a lower level (big books tough - worth reading once you have read the list above)
Advanced Google Adwords by Brad Geddes
Performance Marketing with Google Analytics by Tonkin, Whitmore and Cutroni

I read a lot of books and found a lot to be almost worthless or too basic but the above is a very good little library that I dip in and out of. Many of these books have accompanying websites that update the info (the problem with books on online marketing is that they are out of date before the ink is dry!)

Subject: [uk-netmarketing] Recommendations for online marketing books

Dear Learned List,

Can anyone recommend a fantastic, easy to read, up to date handbook for online marketing? I hoping someone will recommend the equivalent of 'Don't Make Me Think' (which I found via this list) but for online marketing.

I did an MBA specialising in marketing and a marketing diploma back in the early 90s. It was great for basic principles, but I don't think online was even a word then. One essay I wrote was on the possible effect of email on working practises...

If anyone could recommend an easy-read, refresher kind of a book, that would be very welcome,

many thanks,

Caroline
