You could handle this by putting the onus on them, and steering it away
from your client.

Someone mentioned the WayBack Machine, which does what it says on the tin,
it archives the Internet and has been doing so for years and years IF YOU
LET IT>

The point is you could add some code to the robots text file and tell the
Way Back Machine you do not wish any of your content to be archived, which
is the way I prefer to roll.

You could then point out to these people that your site obeys standard
robots text files and the site doesn't currently prevent archiving - you
could even point to the site on the WayBack Machine. - this may open a can
of worms for them and take some heat out of it.
