Hi John

I think it depends who is implementing your site, I agree it *can be more expensive (not twice as much though) including the license, but your CMS developers should know how to squeeze the best of the system for the budget available. If the budget isnt right then Sitecore isnt the right choice. 



Incidentally, I prefer Umbraco for open source, which doesnt have internationalisation like Drupal :)
