[uk-netmarketing] Leaving UKNM? You must be joking!

Hi John,

The difference between two and four prongs is called an iteration, you give
a rather good example of evolutionary product development, albeit on a long
timescale. After all, let’s not forget that Kanban grew out of
evolutionary car development process at Toyota. Agile seeks to evolve your
fork as fast as possible, by identifying the stakeholder requirement
accurately, their motivation, the benefit implicit and the new or
additional functionality, within a lightweight project tracking and
accurate reporting framework.

If I were writing your fork refactor as an agile story it would read;

In order to be able to eat more efficiently with a mix of meat and veg on
my fork, including those pesky peas

As a hungry eater

I would like additional prongs on my fork

If I were measuring my product development team velocity, and the KPI
around time taken to eat and satisfaction in mouthful mix for the hungry
eater stakeholder I could probably run a cost benefit for you, and index
that against digestive problems and advanced rate of human evolution.

There, agile process and accelerated Darwinian evolutionary theory, you
can’t argue with that.

Seriously, If you were building big software systems from scratch you’d
see the difference (very clearly indeed). An extreme example, but
something we do and have measured.

I can’t remember if I recommended Mike Cohn’s book before
http://bit.ly/TTx1Iy if not, it is rather good. In a nerdy kind of way.

Regards

Angus

What it means is... you want a fork? OK, put away the silver service...
here's a fork... OK, so it's not got all the prongs yet, but with two you
can eat, right? I mean, any more prongs is a waste really. You don't need
four prongs on a fork...

And, if you can eat, you win... sort of.

Seriously though, the hilarious thing makes all of us take it all so
seriously is that it has not really (much) affected the costs or project
delivery timing... in our experience... but it has made some dev.
businesses have a USP.

Here's a question though: does agile mean disorganised, yet able to respond

Sam, that’s not old age, that’s agile development methodology – very
cutting edge ;)

Hiya all...

Thanks for all the replies on this thread and the feedback, it's been
really useful.

As Suzy mentioned, I did ask a few months back about moving the list to
Linkedin, or, <clench> Facebook. The majority of replies were happy with
good old-fashioned email even if the quantity of posts is a bit sporadic.

Over the years I've looked at lots of fancy platforms, but there's always
been some reason for not moving. Initially I thought Linkedin might work,
but apart from a couple of exceptions, virtually all of the 50 groups I've
joined are full of spam.

As part of a bunch of tech work at Chinwag, we're moving to new hosting -
watch out for some new web stuff in the New Year - I've also sorted out the
archives for the list since moving to Mailman:

https://mm.chinwag.com/pipermail/uk-netmarketing/

It's a bit vanilla at the moment, but at least it's a start. The old, old
archives are up on the website and eventually I'll find enough time or a
script kiddie to pour about 10 years' worth of posts into the new archive
and tart it up somewhat.

In my old age, I'm trying (and most failing) to get things up a bit more
quickly and not worrying quite so much about they way they look, especially
when most of us are using email.

Any suggestions on how to improve the list, usage, etc. are very welcome -
point taken about speeding up the moderation of posts.

They all seem to be transient whereas this has remained the same and a

I'm happy if it works in fits and bursts, that's the level I want not an
