I think that is a how long is this piece of string question because it
depends on exactly are you looking to achieve.

Is it to:-

   - just track a user across the site
   - track a user across multiple visits (this may or may not be across
   multiple browsers and computers)
   - track a user through the visits prior to a sale
   - track mouseflow across the page and watch how the user visits your
   site
   - track differences across multi-variant testing
   - identify referral information and track the true cost of a sale
   - de-duplicate referral information to confirm what was responsible for
   the final prompt prior to purchase.
   - Creating personal recommendations based on previously visited items or
   purchases.

And that is just the list from the top of my head without thinking about
any of the more specific items people have been asking for over the last
three months when we've been doing market research.

Its actually a shame you posted it now as I wanted to wait until next
Monday before asking the UKNM list if anyone wanted to be Beta testers for
the analytics system we are working to launch later this year. So I'll do
that now:-

If anyone has a site for which they want to receive more analytical
information (especially if it requires information that is not otherwise
available) and they don't mind beta testing a new system email me. We'll
even give you a permanent discount when we launch.

If however your demands are not that great or large either of getclicky and
gosquared will provide what you want.
