[uk-netmarketing] How to win awards...

Hi Jon, thanks for your feedback, I’ll try and phrase those as questions so that they can be put to the panel but I think you have some good/valid points there.

The first second and fourth are all things we’re actively trying to address in the BIMAs (e.g. this year we have the minor miracle award which is specifically designed to reward projects produced on a shoestring or in record time etc)

The third is fundamentally the point of having the event so I can’t help but encourage you to come along if you want to find out the secret there!

Cheers

Simple thought, but most agencies don't enter because in digital they expect only those advertisers and agencies with the biggest budgets, therefore possibly those with the most scope to cover all creative, strategic and media platfom bases will win everytime.

There needs to be some clear big and small advertiser/budget separate award categories to attract more middle size and smaller angencies that gives them a level playing field to compete fairly.

As few people ever get to read the winning entries most agency people dont know why something won or what writing sty;le and content clinches a short listed nomination let alone a gong winner.

Finally price. No matter, it still puts smaller agencies off.

Hi All,

Once again I am running the gauntlet of what's appropriate to post to the list, I do hope this slides through but @Sam, totally no worries if not!

Bima are running an event in London on the 24th and again on the 31st in Edinburgh called "how to win awards" the aim is to give genuine incite into the awards process, help people to craft thier entries better (often the deciding factor in my experience) and have a frank and open discussion about people's thoughts, prejudices and ideas for improvement.

I'm hoping you might be able to help with two things:

1) we're currently looking for another panellist to join the Edinburgh panel, ideally someone client-side to give a balanced perspective and help avoid the event descending into a schlong comparison exercise :)

2) I was wondering if you might like to contribute some questions for us to put to the panel? It can be anything you like, I'm sure that many of you wonder about corruption in awards - before I got involved with the BIMAs I certainly did - or maybe you want to know why such and such won verses another project... Really, go for it, I want to us to be putting the panel on the spot.

Please do help, more info on the event can be found here: http://www.bima.co.uk/events/368/how-to-win-awards/

So... There you go! Hope this slides through and that it all makes sense.

Cheers

Hi John,

Yes, it is a bit of a plug but I am honestly genuinely interested in this. So… taking the below:

“Gameification is the incorporation of gaming ideas, principles, methods and actions into non-gaming environments and processes.”

Surely recruitment is a non-gaming process?

Hi Chris

I like it, a great plug ... and then a question at the end ... no, I don't think it's gameification... because if I were to define it (I know there are loads of definitions, but this is mine):
Gameification is the incorporation of gaming ideas, principles, methods and actions into non-gaming environments and processes.

Anyway, that's just IMHO.

What yo got is a competition there, mate!

Cheers

John

Hi All,

I’m conscious that this email may fall foul of the “No Shameless Self Promotion” rule but hoping it’ll slip past as I’m genuinely interested in your opinion.

So… here goes.

We’ve just recently finished a project for Red Bull who are currently looking for five interns to work with the Red Bull Racing team. They wanted to open applications to as wide an audience as possible and approached us to see if we could come up with a cunning but fun aptitude test to form the first stage of the application process, the idea is that the top 20% of players then win the ability to apply for the internship.

I’ll refrain from posting a link to the work as I’m sure this’ll get my post blammed (but if you’re interested it shouldn’t be too difficult to find) however what want to ask is… is this Gamification? I hadn’t even thought about it until we finished the work but I kinda think it is???

So… go on… shoot me down in flames!

Cheers
