I think goto.com is good and there is scope for lots of sites both big and
small to get to the top.

In the case of the words chinese food, you are up against the top site that
pays 26 cents a click while to make it in the top 120 will cost 4 cents.
seems a good deal. Also consider the cost of your listing versus the actual
number of click throughts. it will be interesting to see how many clicks
chinese food gets. if it is say 100 a month, then that will cost you $26 a
month which again is a small price to pay if it gets you an audience that
stays there. You are only paying for the traffic you get.

Chinese cooking is an even better bargain, only 20 cents to be at the top
and 1 cent gets you in the top 10.

Eat Chinese will cost you just one cent to be number one while one cent will
also make you number one for cooking chinese.

I think you need to be flexible with your search words to get yourself good
coverage.

I like the goto.com site and model and especially the fact that goto really
markets themselves and powers a number of other sites with its service which
means they are promoting themselves which has added benefits for those using
them.

If only that were true. My own experience of goto.com is that companies
with big bucks are being awarded search terms that they can offer only one
page of content against. They are also being allowed to have the click-thru
lead the visitor to their home page rather than to the correct and relevant
destination.

Cash-poor niche sites (like mine) end up further down in the results,
despite arguably offering more detailed and relevant content.

It therefore doesn't follow that visitors gets high quality results from
this system.

Money talks, as always.
