goto.com is the 7th most popular search engine in the world

I would consider Goto.com to be quite major given their distribution network
and appearing in lots of other searches.

In my days at InfoSpace, one of the search engines we carried was Goto.com
which was tightly integrated into the InfoSpace Web search and it gets
massive distribution on other sites as a result of this...

What do you define as "major"??? My thoughts is that major is something that
is distrbuted widely and used widely and Goto.com fits into both camps.
Maybe not so widely in the UK, but certainly US and now with their UK plans,
certainly one to watch out for...

My understanding was the same as matt,

You pay to get listed faster - this makes sense. Yahoo has to hire lots of
people to update the directory, if you want something done faster they have
to get special people and they have to pay them.

Are there any _major_ search engines that you actually pay to get listed
first?

I doubt it.
