I most tell Amazon.co.uk that they are liars, cheats, and frauds before I delete my unsolicited email this morning.


Your advice that this form of campaign is ineffective is rubbish, it's probably just not desirable (if every company did it we'd sink under the email traffic). It also seems to be a highly emotional theme judging by the tone of the emails that have been returned on this topic.

Of course, Richard, lists like UNNM are very effective ways of communicating

with your target market or (as in this case) talking to people in your own

or related markets about issues of interest to each other.


But UKNM is _not_ a  "targeted email list", it is a _discussion group_.

Please try to understand the difference as it is rather important.


"Targeted email lists" are offered for sale by people who sell untargeted

email lists. Both are used for the purposes of sending unsolicited email

(junk, spam, etc). Neither is effective at promoting anything other than

pornography, get-rich-quick schemes and religion. Other than these three

markets, unsolicited email (or spam, or whatever you want to call it) is

counter-productive - ie it does more harm to your business than good.


So why are some lists called "targeted email lists"? Because the people who

sell them are liars, cheats and frauds (with the one or two people in that

market reading this being an exception, of course).


This advice is cheap, (nay, free!). You might therefore consider it

worthless. Or you might think that, given that it is based on advice

previously given to clients under a high-priced (but very cost effective)

consultancy contract, it is valuable advice freely offered. Such is the

privilege of choice.
