Hmm, you say TV is one way and say it will become two way, which is a Good
Thing(TM):

But then you say:
> Television is fantastic. I can sit back, turn the set on, and I feel happy
> to watch the lights and listen to the sounds wash over me. I don't have to

So you don't want interactivity then?
Anyway, I agree that TV commercials kick the proverbial bottom when it comes
to the production values and budgets that get applied.
TV replace the Internet? Only if we have a hugemonsterous paradigm shift.
Reading text based info on an interlaced TV screen hurts your eyes and is a
blooming nightmare. Having bouncy presenters, such as the lovely Gail Porter
or John Noakes, tell you information via broadcast quality video is what TV
currently does well.
But we're currently trying to solve the problem by making the TV more like a
computer:
* It's too hard to decipher the info - let's make the text bigger then
* There's no mouse - let's use a numeric keypad approach to navigation
instead
* It flickers like a bugger - try to avoid horizontal lines then and use a
special colour palette
* There's no hard disk for plug-ins/caching/saving the info I've already
seen - umm, download it each time then
* The family wants to watch Brookie but I'm trying to buy their Xmas
presents/read my email - tell them you wear the trousers in the family and
they do what you say
Straw poll: How many people on the list who have email through a TV set top
box use it regularly? How many regularly shop through their digital TV box
instead of their PC?
Don't get me wrong, we love digital TV and will happily provide services to
any major retailers and brands that are keen to join in the fun, but there
are big issues to solve that go beyond simple sound bites. We need a digital
TV equivalent of 3G mobile in my opinion. We also need to work out what is
the best way to use it for the benefit of all users of all physical
abilities. Subtitles? I nearly spent.
