A-ha! My dream posting... but will keep brief.
We are similar but not the same. Questico assembles experts but all the
answering is done over the phone - humans give far more intelligent,
flexible, immediate answers than search engines. As a user you select your
expert (rated by others, a bit like eBay in that respect), then click on the
'Call button'. Your phone rings and it's Questico saying you are being
connected. Our technology then gets the expert on the phone, then connects
you both.
We believe IT will be our 2nd most popular category - try typing in "How do
I fix my printer?" into a search engine to see why. Datamonitor estimate
this person-to-person marketplace to facilitate $50 bn of e-commerce, turn
over $6 bn directly, and have a market cap of $30 bn by 2005.
If anyone has further questions about our specific service, mail me off
list - we can integrate into your look and feel and act as a limitless
editorial resource you get paid for (sorry Sam, I'm done now).
Many sites have email experts, particularly the women's sites. But they do
not guarantee either an answer or the speed of an answer if forthcoming. Our
market is niche at the moment but at some point it will spike. People will
pay for things that save them time and money.

One of my clients has been fielding questions via an IT website in the U.S.
It is positioned as "Ask the expert" and clicks through to a table of Q&As -
listing a specific email address to post questions - does anyone know of
sites in Europe that look for experts to participate in a similar way?
