One box, sits under the stairs like a gas meter, probably says Cisco on the
side. (Co-branded with your telco) Handles all your home connections, next
to your power points are ethernet points, or if you bought in the second
phase of these boxes there's a 'powered by bluetooth' logo on it and another
slave box upstairs, cutting down on the need for wires. It also features its
own firewall and maybe has a bolt on net nanny feature.
This box talks to your PS2 / Xbox / Stereo (download music to the stereo
directly...), it provides the connectivity for your PC / Workstation /
Interface to online ASP / It talks to any domestic appliances that have
online updates. (Miele washing machines are updated by service engineers
with laptops to take advantage of new powders / fabric types) It handles
your phone conversations and pipes video on demand to your home. It may talk
to your fridge, but thats the one part of the picture I can never quite see
(I'm sure other people can)
Meanwhile your car is online and has a voice browser
http://www.bunnyfoot.com/news/pr_20001128.html making the morning commute
even more dangerous. As for what your phone turned into while you weren't
looking...
Cisco recently signed contracts to build wired neighbourhoods in California.
The revolution has barely begun.
