Subject: | UKNM: Japanese technology |

I've just come back from Japan and I'm in a state of shock at how much more
advanced their technology is.
It's not so much the actual tech, where only mobile phones seem massively
more advanced, but the market place - far more competing products, much more
even distribution of marketshare, far more interesting devices and more
niche devices. And a very low profile for US/EU devices. I was particularly
impressed at the low impact of Palm and WinCE machines, and the large number
of other homegrown handheld devices.
I'm also continually amazed at the inability of western products to handle
non-western character sets with any degree of sense, but that's another
issue.
