Subject: | UKNM: Warner stink |

Warner Bros' latest fit of pique about people misusing the Harry Potter name
involves threatening the 15 year old owner of a HP fan site with legal
action: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/1/15324.html
it's taken a few days for the full absurdity of this to sink in. At first I
just thought it was the typical blinkered action of a large greedy
corporate. But it's much much more stupid than that, and not just because of
all the negative PR Warner get from people like me talking loudly &
drunkenly about it at Christmas parties.
Just think about the missed marketing opportunity. Warner have dozens of
dedicated young fans out there spreading the message about their brand.
Surely, you might think, an opportunity for them to support their
ambassadors, demonstrate closeness to fans, work these channels into their
own strategy for the brand. But no. They want to stop people talking about
their product. As the man said, is there no beginning to their talents?
