I don't think that this is the intention. BT will make their money from
massively increased call minutes as the net sign-up hysteria continues to be
unleashed in the UK.

I'm fairly certain that BT would not be allowed to have punters adding
additional services to their bills (viz e-commerce, take-out pizza etc.) as
this is an area regulated by OFTEL and would constitute a breach of their
current operations. I believe that even if BT want to offer, say VOD / cable,
then they must bill separately from the main phone bill.

Anyhow, they might not want to. For those old enough to remember 'Talkabout'
and 'Livewire' premium rate audiotex services from BT - they were promptly
withdrawn when parents started complaining about massive phone bills run up
by their kids, and people just plain denied using the services and refused to
pay!
