We looked at using Beenz on one of our websites... bit of give and take,
anyone who buys something is given "Beenz" and then you offer discount
against Beenz so they can be redeemed. Seems a good idea in principle,
but alas it has it's draw backs.
Firstly as the whole thing is based on customer loyalty, this goes
against the general shopping trend on the net which is to get the same
item as cheap as possible. We find that customers buying direct off the
web aren't bothered about the bells n whistles you'd expect when
shopping in the high street, but just want a straight forward, order
it/deliver it service.
Secondly, when we were asked to trial Beenz, we were given no benchmark
as to how many of the things to offer. Given half a million for starters
to give away we then looked around other sites which were beenz enabled.
One offered 4 beenz free when you bought a toaster costing 17.99ukp,
then gave a reduction of 5ukp per order for 50 beanz. Another site I
looked at was on a whole different scale offering 50 beenz with every CD
purchased. Another had a competition running, one of the prizes was
1,000 beenz.
I believe you now have to pay to have Beenz on your site now too. Can't
see how we benefit from this at all apart from the link on beenz's
website.
Needless to say, we decided against it and remain beenless. Poor old
Jack will just have to buy a ladder like the rest of us.
