Stuart

I know bitstream's TruDoc only previously worked in Netscape 4, but now they
have an ActiveX control out which allows the same code to work in IE4!
(which is what the link to the press release was all about)

Which is why I was making a song and dance about it - cross browser dynamic
font support

True, the font's do take a while to download, but once they are cached they
can be used penalty free throughout the site. And it is seamlessly
degradable to lower browser versions (Who just see the fonts they normally
see - i.e. Times New, Arial , Helvetica etc. depending on what you specify)
so you don't have to mess around doing 2 versions of the same site.

Anyway, say hi to Susan for me

cheers

Robin

Bitstream's TrueDoc thingamajig. THIS IS VERY VERY VERY good news.

It's also very very very clunky and very very very not supported by
anything other than Netscape 4. The fonts can also take more time to
download than comparative 'text as images'.

This technology will find it's time when bandwidth gets better (ADSL take a
bow) but for the time being may I steer you typographic leanings to the
power of Cascading Style Sheets. Sure you've still got the same fonts but,
boy can you now layout that page. Add some Javascript and you can do in

HTML what used to be only possible in Java and Shockwave (well on version
4 browsers anyway).
