We do network support among other services, for our valued clients none of
whom have yet left us a legacy or otherwise mentioned us in their will, and
manage to make a reasonable crust/keep wolf from door etc etc with no
nervous breakdowns yet.

I know we're not massively expensive (our ad-hoc rate 45/hour, competition
usually 72/hour, some 80/half-hour!) and we get repeat business so we can't
be entirely crap.

Our approach is very much to share the knowledge needed to support your own
systems; it makes sense that our clients sort as many of their own problems
as possible, and of course it suits us too. However, we remain surprised how
few of our clients wish to move from an ad-hoc arrangement to a support
contract which would be cheaper and more easily budgeted for; and indeed how
few take the basic step of saving money by making someone in their
organisation responsible for the computer system; no doubt a problem with
our own marketing!

Small snagette (Christina) - we're in central Edinburgh and wouldn't take on
a client where we can't give quality service.

Hope this isn't too far off-list.

Archie Bell

Experience says there is no answer to this one.

We used to do this for a bunch of legacy clients, and it's a nightmare
business, so we stopped!
