Just because many Websites are appalling abominations, that's *no*
justification for giving up and being happy with horrific marketing ideas
which (effectiveness aside) screw up an entire site and brand, and confuse
the user (and last time I checked with anyone with a sliver of soul left,
it was the user which mattered).
