[Spot on stuff about keeping UKNM on track snippped...]

Every few months there tends to be a mini-explosion of what some people
might think of as 'knee-jerk' posts, where there's a pattern of responding
to a message and hitting the return key, before considering the relevance
to the mailing list. I think we might all be suffering, perhaps it's
pre-millenial angst, perhaps it's frustration that it's not quite time for
the Xmas holidays.

Whatever the cause, can I please urge everyone to:

* think _before_ hitting the send button
* keep your .sigs down to 5 lines or less (I already chop out blank lines)
* only quote the relevant parts of the email you're responding to (with
appropriate attribution).

It's also worth bearing in mind that in your professional 'new media' life,
you're very likely to come across the folks on this list, whether it's at a
job interview, online marketing pitch, the next UKNM do, whatever.

Remember, mud sticks, even virtual mud. I'm not sure this is the right
analogy, but it sounds good.

I don't moderate the list to a great extent at the moment, other than query
folks on the odd occassion where it looks like they intended a message for
an individual rather than the list. I can wield my virtual axe to posts,
but I don't want to, and I don't think it'll be constructive. Marketing is
a vast area, so there's plenty of subjects that are on-topic.

I thank you.
