Railtrack's 'next train home' service (register off
http://www.railtrack.com/travel - pick timetable and click on 'mobile phone
users click here') is slick.
I'm a bit baffled by the 'walled garden' arguments (and this isn't the first
time I've read it) as I've found it just ain't so - I've entered Loot and
Railtrack, among others, as bookmarks on my Vode 7110 (using Vodafone's
gateway and access number) and they work fine. I rang Orange for their
settings and they told me the whole caboodle (number, gateway, homepage) and
that works fine (it's hard to see how they'd stop it - calling line id
lookup on the access server I guess, though you'd have thought their
merchants and advertisers (if any) would want the traffic). I also, for the
hell of it, accessed Vodafone's site from a public gateway.
Somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong...is everybody else buying phones that
you can't change the access number and gateway on?

Well, being one of the fools who bought a WAP phone on Vodafone, I don`t
actually have the option of checking out every WAP site thanks to their
walled garden system. However, there are still a few gems available
including The Hitchhikers Guide which has made many a long train journey fly
by and the pretty nifty Guardian Unlimited site.
BBC News makes me laugh though with its tiny summaries that leave you
longing for more. Surely a few more words wouldn`t kill? Pleeeeaaasse?
Actually, come to think of it, those are about the only WAP sites I`ve spent
any real time on, except for picking up emails etc.
I know it's not exactly (or even remotely) a WAP service but I have just
ordered a CD via text message from Scan (www.scan.com). To be honest I
wasn`t expecting the service to work but my order arrived in 3 days - and
they even called me to confirm the order -which kind of defeated the object
but it was a nice touch!
Just my rambling mobile experiences...
