Also, if you start using expiring links and there is any sort of page/server
error then people aren`t going to get their coupon and they'll feel robbed.
Another way to do it would be if each emailed coupon had a unique ref number
which could be checked in store to see if it had been redeemed - like with
mobile top-up cards.
Of course that would rely on the sales people having access to some kind of
(web based?) database searchy thing (a technical term) which probably makes
the idea completely impractical but it depends of what kind of shop we're
talking about. Don`t shops already have some way of scanning barcodes on
gift vouchers to check they're for real?
Just some rambling thoughts.
