.edu is amercian educational establishments only (so much for the
.com/.net/.org are global-generic idology).

.ac.uk is the uk version, altough .sch.uk is also now valid. The charter I
belive is .sch.uk if you are a registered school, otherwise .ac.uk for all
academic instituits.

Unless you are an academic instituite of some kind, I doubt you will be
granted one - even though the subject of your website and business may be
educational. It all goes back, once gain, to idiology where .co.uk was for
companies only. Whilst this may not be true these days, .net.uk and .ac.uk
are still being strictly adminastered such that only genuine uses of the
domains are made.

Anyway more can be found out at
http://www.ja.net/documents/naming/ac.uk-naming-procedure.html which is the
official (and only) registra of .ac.uk and .gov.uk domains.

Subject: UKNM: Registering .edu domains

Does anyone know whether UK organisations can register .edu domains (the
usage would be for a website to promote an educational text) and, if so,
what is the cost and process involved?

Thanks.
