I've been using my cable modem connection at home for 3 weeks now.
It's always on, 28UKP per month flat fee, 1.5Mbps access, with no dodgy
ADSL caching/proxy issues.
I'm living the future, apparently.
It's been interesting
Is the surfing experience revolutionised?
Nope, cos while the download speed is simply awesome, the per-connection
latency is the same if not slower than dial up, and becomes the bottleneck,
along with page rendering overheads.
So on many levels, a site that is Bad over Narrowband (use of loads of
small images / slow servers / dodgy HTML tables ) is equally Bad over
Broadband. Have I watched any TV over the web? Have I fuck.
And this focus group of one can *heartfeltedly* verify Cojones' Law, which
states that as download speed increases, user tolerence of delay decreases
proportionally...
