Facebook or Twitter? How Age and Narcissism Motivates The Choice

Facebook is a mirror while Twitter is a megaphone.

That is the core of a University of Michigan study into the two dominant social networks and how people use them.

Lead researcher Elliot Panek and colleagues carried out two studies. In the first, college students were asked how they used social media and given personality assessments. Among this age group, narcissists preferred to use Twitter to broadcast their opinions to others.

The Email Marketing "D-Spot"

If your email marketing strategy doesn’t factor in mobile devices and your emails aren't mobile ready then your marketing communications are missing a fundamental trick.

Our research shows that 36% of all consumers are already reading marketing emails on a mobile device - and this rises to over half (55%) for 18-34 year olds. The way your emails look - and the volume and type of content within them - needs to evolve so that the content is as engaging on a mobile device as it is on a laptop or desktop computer. Finding the middle ground between both types of devices (the "D-Spot") is paramount - particularly with the rise of m-commerce.

The Social Media Garden: A Digital Era Research Study into Social Media at Work

A failure of leaders to adapt to social media is the main barrier organisations face in embracing social media. This is the message of a research project - The Social Media Garden, a digital era research study about social technologies at work.

There is already a mounting body of research on the use of social media in organisations. However, none of these studies have been conducted using social media methodologies. Pioneering collaborative technology was used to create The Social Media Garden. It is, in itself, a demonstration of how social technologies are changing the way we engage in conversations and exchange knowledge about our opinions, experiences and ideas. 

Unilever and Silverman Research conducted the project (which ran Feb - Apr '12 with approx 650 participants) to provide insight to people who are developing, or expanding, the use of social media in organisations.

New Research Finds Nearly Half of UK Consumers Interacting with Brands on Facebook

A new study released by global interactive marketing provider, ExactTarget, found that nearly half of UK consumers interact with brands on Facebook and nearly a quarter of those are more likely to make a purchase from that brand.

Based on more than 1,404 consumer interviews and surveys, The Social Profile UK research report is the latest in ExactTarget’s Subscribers Fans and Followers research series to explore UK consumer behavior across email, Twitter and Facebook.
