User Experience 2008
Description
User Experience 2008 is a six day long conference in Amsterdam aimed at both web usability beginners and veterans. The event offers 31 full-day tutorials where attendees will have the opportunity to hear from industry leaders on subjects ranging from information architecture to specialised topics such as designing complex applications. In addition, there will be a host of networking opportunities including evening events and the option to participate in offsite networking opportunities.
WHY ATTEND: The User Experience 2008 Conference delivers practical knowledge, deep learning and insight into usability issues. Tutorials are led by the pioneers including Jakob Nielsen, principal of Nielsen Norman Group, and founder of the “discount usability engineering” movement. Sessions are designed to help attendees to master the latest research and guidelines through in-depth, hands-on training. Attendees are free to choose from a variety of seminars and tutorials relevant to their needs that cover fundamental guidelines for web usability, rapid iterative design, design principles for effective websites, multi-user services and managing a user experience team.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
Sociable Design
Don Norman, co-founder and a Principal of Nielsen Norman Group, will discuss issues in sociable design including the social aspects of designing services. Sociable design extends the arena of design from function, aesthetics, and emotion to the world of social interaction.
Don is the author of fourteen books, which include The Design of Future Things and Emotional Design: Why we love (or hate) everyday things.
Usability for Evil
Chris Nodder, User Experience Specialist at Nielsen Norman Group will focus on usability’s dark side and explain why—after years of frustrated efforts at global domination—usability professionals are now better positioned than ever to take over the world and subjugate its users by dashing their expectations, manipulating their behaviours, and employing any number of other “Usability for Evil” secrets.
By exploring real-world case studies
attendees at User Experience 2008
will see first hand how they can apply usability best
practices.
