Sheffield Doc/Fest - Involving Communities: Thinking Beyond Broadcast
Event Info
Description
On Friday 5 November and Saturday 6 November, Sheffield Doc/Fest is convening a series of panels that look at innovative ways of involving communities in film and digital media. As a specially focused strand, there’s a collection of panels, keynote speeches, roundtable talks and networking opportunities.
Docmedia makers are working toward the empowerment of communities through storytelling in all media. Conceived for a world ‘beyond broadcast’, this work often has a social impact from local to international levels. At the same time, a 'new' industry of third sector financing is emerging, and traditional broadcasting and publishing models are fusing with community communications networks.
These sessions explore best-case examples of community projects, examining how they are funded and analysing their impact. The discussions will explore how media can unlock the power of communities and the role social entrepreneurs play in that power-shift.
The Festival will facilitate partnerships between independent media-makers and community groups, public sector institutions, social entrepreneurs and ‘third sector’ funding organisations.
