Description

From humble beginnings in a developer’s living room in 1988, the Game Developers Conference has grown to the largest professionals only gathering of videogame industry professionals. True to its original vision, GDC continues to be the nexus point of learning, networking and inspiration for developers looking to imagine and deliver the next breakthrough.

GDC 2011 marks the 25th edition of this mission and serves as a testament of how far the industry has come and as a celebration of its bright future.

Introduction

The Game Developers Conference® (GDC) is the world’s largest professionals-only game industry event. Presented every spring in San Francisco, it is the essential forum for learning, inspiration, and networking for the creators of computer, console, handheld, mobile, and online games.

The GDC attracts over 18,000 attendees, and is the primary forum where programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals, business decision-makers and others involved in the development of interactive games gather to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry. The GDC is produced by UBM TechWeb Game Network, a division of UBM TechWeb, LLC.

Expo

The most innovative companies in the world exhibit at the GDC Expo demonstrating the tools developers use to create the games that will be on store shelves two to three years from now.

Game Developers Choice Awards

The 11th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards are the premier accolades for peer-recognition in the digital games industry, celebrating creativity, artistry and technological genius. Industry professionals from around the world are nominated for the awards, free of charge. Gamasutra members vote on the finalists, ensuring that the recipients reflect the community's opinions. The awards will take place Wednesday, March 2, 2011.

Independent Games Festival

The 13th Annual Independent Games Festival serves to encourage and reward innovation in independent games. The independent game development community plays an important role in supplying new game ideas and concepts, and disseminating them throughout the larger community of developers. They continue to move the industry in new directions.
