About the Lecture
The lecture entitled 'Digital century - the web is your oyster' will examine the developments of digital technology and services globally, and their impact on society. After a look back at the impact of mobile and the internet over the last 30 years the speaker will identify some of the new services innovation and investment that we can expect within the coming years.
The talk will illustrate transitional steps:
- Analogue to digital communications
- Business to consumer services
- Voice to data usage
- Internet for people and things
- And the growing impact on new sectors such as education; transport and ticketing; energy and the environment; health and wellness; smart cities.
About the Speaker
Dr Mike Short's career spans 37 years in electronics and telecommunications, with the last 24 years in mobile communications. After working for Philips, Landis and Gyr, and BT, he was appointed in 1989 as Director of Cellnet (now part of Telefonica and branded 02 UK) dealing with major infra-structure investments and commercial agreements.
