Description

If you are a developer who is interested in big data and health care come and join us at Skills Matter for the beta launch of the open health data platform. This platform has been developed by the connected Digital Economy Catapult and leading big data software company, Mastodon C, to provide access to health and health related data and tools to visualise and analyse it. It's early days for the platform and you are invited to help shape the future of health data in the UK.

Commissioned by the Connected Digital Economy Catapult we are looking for developers and software agencies who want to build the next generation of healthcare software products and services.

The Digital Catapult is a national centre put together in order to rapidly advance the UK’s best digital ideas. It was established in 2012 by the Technology Strategy Board and is building open platforms and assets on which innovators can rapidly create and build successful businesses. The purpose of this event is to present the Digital Catapult vision for digital health innovation, introducing you to the developers, and giving you access the data, API and ‘how to’ guides. It is also an opportunity to let us know what directions you would like us to take going forward.

Health data is playing a crucial role in understanding a range of diseases, leading to advances in preventative medicine, improvements in NHS care and better development of commercial drugs and diagnostics.

The UK also has an opportunity to create a world-leading commercial environment for data-driven health products and services and in particular to create a rich, health data ecosystem of innovation partners. The market for health products and services is growing. The EU market for digital health care products and services is estimated to be worth more than £40bn per annum by 2018.

The UK is in a good position to take a lead in this market. Health data is most powerful at scale and the UK offers a sizeable population of more than 60million. Combined with the ability to track individuals (while protecting patients and privacy) through a national healthcare system, the UK sets itself apart from competitors, such as the USA, which has no centralized system, and Scandinavia, which has a relatively small population.

The Open Health Data platform aims to encourage innovation in this space by forming appropriate collaborations, making a selection of datasets available, and encouraging large, small and emergent businesses to capitalise on the available infrastructure.

Sign up to find out more about the platform, explore the datasets, meet other data innovators and see how it can help you to create new products and services and accelerate your business.
