Tech Writer Matt Cowan Interviews Jose de Cabo, Co-Founder of Olapic

Have you ever considered the power of #selfies for your business? Around 70% of consumers look at user-generated product reviews and photos before they purchase. Furthermore, social networks such as Instagram and Pinterest are growing in popularity. Consumers upload millions of pictures of themselves and others every day, and most of these pictures include branded products. Is it possible to somehow transform these pictures into online purchases?

The answer is Olapic. Olapic is a technology platform enabling brands to integrate user-generated photos from Instagram, Twitter and Facebook on their website . Olapic collects, curates, showcases and measures the impact of consumers' uploaded photos for brands and (online) retailers. Olapic searches related hashtags and keywords, enabling brands to insert relevant consumers' photos directly into the e-commerce experience. Brands are in complete control of the photos used on their website. They can also add content to the gallery to enhance the entire experience and convert the pictures in a purchase.

Olapic was founded in 2010 in New York by Jose de Cabo, Pau Sabria, and Luis Sanz who met while attending Columbia University. In July 2013, Olapic was able to rise $5 million (Series A funds) by Fung Capital USA and Longworth Venture Partners, with participation of other investors including Great Oaks and Scout Ventures.

The company has recently opened a branch in London, and in this TechTalk@Cass, Jose will talk about why he left New York behind to help grow Olapic in London.

Jose de Cabo is the co-founder of Olapic. He holds a BA in International Business from Dublin City University, and a MBA from Columbia University (Columbia Business School) in 2010. He previously worked as a management consultant in technology innovation, marketing and sales projects for large multi-national corporations. Jose has lived in more than 40 countries, and he describes himself on Twitter as  'a Spaniard that loves NYC - and now London as well - obsessed about Content, Commerce and Community'.

Matt Cowan is the Director of Media at Nelson Bostock Communications. Previously the European Technology Correspondent for Reuters TV and contributing writer to Wired UK, Matt has interviewed many of the tech sector’s most influential figures. He’s a great storyteller and great at getting others to tell their story.
