I haven't seen this problem but I use a procedure whenever I import a

vector graphic from another program and this WILL solve your problem.


Select your image and Break apart and continue to Break Apart the image

until the Break Apart is grayed out and no longer effective.


There are two reasons for this, one is to reduce the size of the image

by flattening overlapping areas in the various groups that other formats

put together, the size reduction can be from none to very large. Second,

and this is what is probably interferring with the the Alpha not taking

effect is to remove dozens of nested groups that will make it difficult

for Flash to draw an image because it has to analyze all those

components.


The only warning here is if you are going to animate portions of an

imported image while you are ungrouping you may want to remove those

components to a separate layer and perform the break apart separately on

those elements.


Only after you have removed the grouping should you make the object a

symbol.
