OT Director 7 (was: Re: FLASH: Flash going the way of the Dinosaurs?)

Sounds like you have not seen Director 7 and Shockwave 7 yet.  The product

has been redesigned for the web.  


A few things to note: a multi-user server for creating multimedia chat,

games and other experiences

* HTTPS support for secure commerce front ends; XML parsing 

* better streaming of Shockwave files and support for low bandwidth web

formats like animated gif, HTML, Flash 3 

* a redeisgned Shockwave Plug-in that can auto-update itself and securely

download Xtras (i.e. download Shockwave 7 and never have to worry again

about downloading)

* redesgined lyngo syntax similar to javascript; CGI Post

* Shocked Fonts (i.e. embedded fonts) and editible rich text at runtime

* smaller file sizes thanks to selective JPEG compression,

rotation/flipping/skewing/quad animating of members (instead of bandwidth

consuming filmloops with multiple members)



I very much think one should use the right toolfor the right job, and I

would not suggest one replace Flash with Shockwave for most of the things

folks use Flash for (animations, UI/navigation, cartoons); but for richer,

more interactive experiences, for multiuser experiences, for simulations,

for games, for commerce and database front ends, Director can be very

powerful, productive and have beautiful results.
