Flash does exactly as your first 2 sentences mention. As a FLA the file
does need
the font(s) to be on any computer you move the FLA to if you are going to
work or
even view the FLA. However this is NOT true for the published SWF. Once the FLA
is published as a SWF the font outlines are kept intact with the SWF and hence
the fonts are NOT needed on any machine afterward.

It is noted that Text boxes that display text from a text file have to be
told to keep
the font outlines for the font you want to be displayed. If you do not tell
it to keep
the font outlines it will default to a default font on a users machine
regardless of
it being a SWF.
