FLASH: can movies remember symbols/clips?

Question - and I should know this, but from a purely technical/bandwith

issue, can flash remember movie clips, symbols, etc. between .swfs? for

instance if i have a large flash site that contains many movies to be

loaded, can i assume that a common symbol doesn't have to be loaded each

time? what about a little animated *loading* movie clip? could i use this

throughout many swf's without having to re-load it each time? my initial

impression is that i couldn't do this - but I'm sure some of you can shed

light on this subject...thanks.thomas
